My name is Jennifer Hutain and I am a recent college graduate. I grew up in Orange County, California and moved to Goleta, California to attend the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2006. Today I am living in Goleta and working as a technical writing contractor at Direct Relief International. Every day I am learning more as I document business processes across the organization.
I graduated in June 2009 after three years with a major in Global and International Studies and a minor in Professional Writing for Business Communication. Although I entered college undeclared, I choose the Global Studies Program because the situations and integration of people across the globe intrigue me. I feel as though this major has given me a basis for which I will use to continue learning about the world.
Pursuing a professional writing minor proved to be a great decision. The acceptance rate for the program, for I submitted a portfolio application, is about 50 percent. The coursework and instructors have been essential in developing my interest and skill in this wide-ranging field. I hope to pursue some form of professional writing as a career.
I worked several jobs before and during college, which have given me a variety of experience. I learned and improved many skills important to a wide array of fields. Over the years I have learned to apply public relations to marketing strategy, use computer software to maximize the quality of my work, and communicate effectively and professionally through different outlets. At the bottom of my resume, you will find a more detailed list of these skills.
In summer 2008, I traveled to Greece through UCSB's Summer Travel-Study Program. My first trip outside North America, this was an experience I will always remember fondly. Over the eight weeks I spent in Europe, I learned to recognize cultural differences and adapt to a foreign environment.
